Event: Nyepi Day (a day before Balinese Saka New Year) Date: 25th March 2020 Venue: Bali Island - Indonesia Website: www.villasinsin.com
Bali is the island that has preserved the essence of Ancient Hindu, ancient Buddhism acculturate with the native Balinese believe and practise the discipline in their daily life. One of the most important concept is “Tri Hita Karana” the 3 human relations with God, among human and to the nature. “Nyepi” day is the day that most of the Balinese people, which is majority Hindu’s follower will do self-introspection on the new year day, the new year celebrated in a very interesting way, begin with temple and village purification ceremony to the beach, than the offerings served to the lower spirits to respect their existence a day before new year with all the euphoria parade, however on the new year day, the whole island are closed for any activities: no fire/light, no traveling, no entertainment and no physical activities. Everybody stay home and keep the noise as low as possible for 24 hours, some spiritual peoples even doing 24 hours fasting and totally silent (no talk).
The Saka year is 78 years behind the Gregorian calendar, and follows a lunar sequence. The essence is a chance for Mother Nature to ‘reboot’ herself after 364 days of human pestering, this repeatedly every year around March-April. There is also an interesting way to start the day after the new year silence, 4 villages in north Bali will start the fire along the roadside in every entrance from 2 am- 6 am on 26th March, before they can use their kitchen back for their daily routine.
